The architectural style of the building, the massing and spatial arrangement follows that of what we refer to as the New Mauritanian Style – a blend of Moroccan, Andalusian and desert architecture – the key influences on Mauritania through its history. A central courtyard allows natural light into the building volume, where the walking and study areas are provided. The Building structure is heavy creating thermal lag and small punctured opening on the outside to limit the ingress of heat and sunlight into the building and onto these ancient manuscripts.
